Old Art Prints and Vintage Magazine Art-icles from the 1930's

All of the following pieces of ephemera date back to the 1930's and a great collection of various pictures and old prints. All are in a very good order  considering their age and the scans do not do them justice, any 'major' imperfections or signs of age will be mentioned.

All prints and old adverts are scanned and the images are reduced in size and adjusted to be viewed on a 'laptop' monitor. I have 'lightened' some to show just how good they are, most have none or very little 'foxing' or signs of age and are in excellent condition in my opinion.

A Retrospective Exhibition of Paintings By Mathew Smith 

A small booklet or gallery catalogue with 'preface' and 3 black & white prints from the artist Mathew Smith. The old prints are "Femme de Cirque", "Irises and Tulips" and "Couleur de Rose" all are attached to page but can easily be removed for framing. There are 33 Mathew Smith paintings listed, dating from 1913 until 1929 and the names of those who 'lent' them for the exhibition.

SIZE - 7 1/2 x 10 or 195mm by 260mm

CONDITION, Very good, just a couple of very small blemishes to the cover, and rusty staples but prints are in a fine condition.

Vintage Advertisement for S.W.Wolsey Antique Dealers 1930s

A great 1930's piece of advertising ephemera with original print of a 17th century small carved oak court cupboard. Genuine early period furniture and decoration sellers.

Good condition, some slight marks to edges of print.

Old vintage 1930's print titled "Still Life" by J.J.Treck.

Print size 6 3/4 x 8 1/4 or 175mm by 212mm and with a border measuring 1 inch or 25mm.

Old Vintage Arts Magazine News Article Masks Of Indian Mexico By Rodney Gallop

Two page printed on both sides a written article by Rodney Gallop about the Mask Of Indian Mexico illustrated with six photographs of old masks.

Old Pewter Porringers Caudle, Posset and Toasting Cups Article

Three pages, 5 sides of information about porringers caudle, posset and toasting cups. Illustrated with 7 photographs of porringers including a picture of an "exceedingly" rare porringer. The Late Howard Herschel Cotterell words (the author of this magazine article), not mine and that was back in the thirties, imagine how rare it must be now?

Antique Silver Vintage Advertisement

A great 1930's illustrated magazine advertisement for Hicklenton & Phillips Reliable Jewellers, Goldsmiths and Silversmiths. Each silver piece has a price in guineas and I wonder what these pieces are worth today.

Excellent condition with 10mm white border all round.

Sixteenth Century French Furniture by C.E.Hughes

 

Two pages, 3 sides of interesting magazine article about sixteenth century French furniture with 2 small photographs and one large full page print. A black and white photograph of a mid XVITH Century French Dresser in walnut associated with Du Cerceau from the Durlacher Collection, Victoria and Albert Museum.

Notes On Fashion Plate Collecting by Vyvyan Holland

A great piece of ephemera for anyone who is interested in fashion plates or collecting them. This is a magazine article by Vyvyan Holland and contains 3 pages printed both sides and illustrated with 7 almost postcard sized prints. Plus a full page print of a fashion plate designed by Gavarni for "La Mode" of 1831.

Two pages 3 sided magazine article, Magdalen Cups by CC Oman illustrated with 3 prints all the same size as one on display, of various paintings by famous painters. Plus full page with large photograph of a 1572 Magdalen Cup made of crystal and silver gilt.

German Art, Exhibition Of XXth Century German Art At The New Burlington Galleries Vintage Magazine Article.

Two pages and one side per page is relating to this illustrated magazine article about early German artwork. There is the "Temptation" triptych by Beckmann, "Hunger" by Ernst Barlach and "Mother" from a series "war" by Kathe Kollwitz.
